THE 2011 ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE PENNSYLVANIA CONFERENCE OF TEAMSTERS
WAS HELD FROM MAY 22 – MAY 25, 2011 AT THE HOTEL HERSHEY IN HERSHEY, PA.
The PA Conference is proud to announce that we had 99% participation from all our affiliate Locals.
The main theme at this year's convention revolved around “Stop the War on Workers”. Many union officials and elected officials addressed the attendees on the importance of staying the course and actively fighting all forms of anti-union legislation.
Numerous dignitaries, both elected and appointed, attended the reception held in the evening of the opening day of the Annual Meeting at The Hotel Hershey. Those in attendance included congressmen, legislators, senators, cabinet members, judges and the heads of various state and federal agencies.
The Annual Meetings closed at the end of the final Session on May 25, 2011. Keynote speakers included General President Hoffa, General Secretary-Treasurer C. Thomas Keegel, Congressman Robert Brady and Congressman Mark Critz. Other speakers included, PA Senator Jay Costa, Jr., PA Representative Frank Dermody, PA Representative William Keller, PA Representative Pat Harkins, Philadelphia City Controllers Alan Butkovitz, Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County President Councilman, Pat Murphy, Former Congressman and Kathryn Boockvar, judicial candidate. A special afternoon session was set up for Tuesday which included: First Observer™ - Counter Terrorism Training for Teamsters Presented by – Mark Johnson, Teamsters National Training Director First Observer™ is a voluntary counter-terrorism training program being provided to Teamsters all over the country to train them to Observe, Assess and Report things they think may be preparations for acts of terrorism intended to destroy infrastructure or harm our citizens. The Executive Board of the PA Conference clearly expressed that each is there to serve the interest of the membership in opposing laws and outside forces that attempt to undermine the integrity and well being of the Teamsters. Each has further pledged to work tirelessly to give all Locals the best service available.
The Executive Board of the PA Conference of Teamsters wishes to express a special THANK YOU to all the Affiliate Local Unions, GCC/IBT, BLET, Guests and Speakers that attended, participated and helped to make the 2011 Convention a huge success.
